NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — Talk about a dumpster fire.

New Brunswick firefighters went to Route 1 south, near Houlihan’s, to extinguish smoldering debris in a trash container, city spokesperson Jennifer Bradshaw told TAPinto New Brunswick. A news alert for the incident came out around 3:40 p.m.

The dumpster was attached to a tow truck that had recently come from the scene of an accident in which a tractor-trailer overturned on the Turnpike, according to the city. The truck had loaded some of the spilled materials into the bin and then went on its way.

When the truck got to Route 1, the driver noticed that “the contents of the dumpster were smoldering,” Bradshaw said. The tow truck pulled over and contacted the fire department, which then solved the problem, she said.

No injuries were reported, she said.
