Dear Editor,

Something beautiful happened at last night’s game when the New Brunswick High School marching band took the field at halftime.

Twelve of them. Yes, you read that correctly, twelve kids comprise their entire band. The parent chaperones were in awe of these courageous kids, only a dozen of them, just about one of each instrument, who took to the field to play a halftime show.

But this was not the beautiful part; the most magnificent thing that occurred was when OUR kids stood up in the stands to cheer these 12 marchers on. They stood up, they shouted “Marching band, we LOVE you!” They clapped and whistled and hooted and hollered for these 12 strangers.

THIS is what marching band is all about. The love on the stands was palpable.

THESE are our kids. Our AWESOME, KIND and EMPATHETIC kids. I am so proud of them, and we all should be proud of ourselves for raising such an amazing group of young people.
