NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.: Vikram Sathyendra, M.D. has joined the staff of Saint Peter’s University Hospital, expanding the portfolio of services available in orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Sathyendra’s expertise focuses on the upper extremities, specifically shoulder and elbow injuries and dysfunction.

“Saint Peter’s orthopaedic surgical program focuses on providing a full complement of treatment options for conditions and injuries affecting the knee, hip, spine, shoulder and elbow,” said Leslie D. Hirsch, interim CEO and president, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System. “Patients will benefit from being able to consult with surgeons who are specially trained in treating specific areas of the body and the latest advancements in joint replacement.”

Shoulder surgery is the third most common joint replacement surgery after knee and hip. There also is a growing need to address rotator cuff problems, which become more common as patients age. Dr. Sathyendra focuses his surgical practice on three main procedures: rotator cuff surgery, shoulder replacement, and labral repair. His expertise applies to most conditions of the upper extremities, including degenerative issues, trauma, and acute issues such as fractures and falls. Dr. Sathyendra is mindful that not all injuries require surgery and will provide those patients with nonsurgical solutions where appropriate.
