"Prison Nation" Panel Discussion

The launch of the latest Aperture Magazine, “Prison Nation,” includes a panel of artists and writers discussing the issue. Reception and book signing follow.

The magazine addresses the role of photography in creating a visual record of mass incarceration – focusing less on prisons and more on the human beings inside. Nicole Fleetwood, an associate professor of American studies at Rutgers-New Brunswick and a scholar of incarceration who was a contributing editor to the issue, speaks with panelists: Jesse Krimes, conceptual artist and activist; Sable Smith, conceptual artist and educator; Brendan Wattenberg, Managing Editor of Aperture magazine. Moderated by Che Gossett, trans activist and scholar who is working on trans rights and prison abolitionism.
