Raritan Valley Symphonic Band Holiday Concert “Reflections” features Soprano Alisha Sheth

On Sunday, December 15th, the Raritan Valley Symphonic Band will present its annual holiday concert “Reflections”.  The concert will take place at Bridgewater-Raritan High School (600 Garretson Road in Bridgewater) at 3 PM.  Admission to the concert is free.

Artistic Director Dr. Christopher G. Sumner designed the program as a music tapestry of reflections experienced during the holiday season.  Dr. Sumner explained that “with the holidays quickly approaching, it’s not uncommon for people to stop and take time to reflect on their lives, families, past, future, hopes, dreams and even fun time.”

The RVSB welcomes soprano soloist Alisha Sheth who will be performing on three selections: “il Bacio” by Luigi Arditi, “Grown Up Christmas List” made popular by Kelly Clarkson, and the traditionally popular Irving Berlin’s “White Christmas”.  Ms. Sheth is a senior at NYU studying Vocal Performance with a concentration in Classical Voice under the instruction of Jamon Maple.

RVSB member Frank Amato will also be a featured soloist on Derek Bourgeois’ “Romance for Alto Saxophone”.

Other featured works include:

-      Alfred Reed’s “Jubilant Overture”, a standard for concert band music;

-      Francis McBeth’s “Kaddish”, based on the Jewish prayer often used by mourners during the bereavement time;

-      “Reflections in Moonlight”, based on Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata in honor of his upcoming 250th anniversary; and

-      Michael Vertoske’s “Morning Reflections”, a ballad that is both quiet and introspective.

The concert will conclude with two traditional holiday favorites by Leroy Anderson: “Sleigh Ride” and “Christmas Festival”.

The RVSB is a 70 member community band performing at least 5 free concerts annually in its 37th season.

Funding for this performance is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Somerset County Cultural and Heritage Commission.

TRENTON – It’s impossible to argue that this country doesn’t have a gun problem. So why is the federal government trying to loosen its rules on those plastic guns made by 3D printers? That’s what New Jersey officials are trying to figure out, seething that the Trump Administration thinks it makes perfect sense to ease restrictions on that dreadful ...

The Courier News reports this law hasn’t ...

ATLANTIC CITY – Dreams of loose slots, aged ribeyes and shaken martinis drive many high-rollers to the Borgata for a night of fuzzy memories. But some of these aspiring revelers are ending up 45 miles away, smack in the middle of an Ocean County wildlife preserve; the only thing on the menu is them. NJ 101.5 reports the Waze app is directing tourists into the dark of the Colliers ...

ATLANTIC CITY - Hard Rock International has already invested $562 million to completely overhaul the former Trump hotel. And yesterday, in pledging another $15 million in investment - the Hard Rock CEO had one request to Atlantic City: Can you fix the damn traffic lights? The CEO complained that traffic lights have been out for two months on several blocks of Pacific Avenue, ...

The Jaffe Briefing - January 16, 2020

TRENTON – With word that New Jersey will soon be the only state with a guaranteed severance-pay law, there’s plenty of mixed emotion. No doubt, it’s a great win for workers at companies with more than 100 full-time employees, who would get severance if there was a mass layoff of at least 50 workers. But one would also assume such companies are financially destitute, like ...

TRENTON – As the great philosopher Kermit the Frog once said, “It’s not easy being green.” To be accurate, the famously contemplative amphibian didn’t speak the words; rather, he warbled them. But what do you do for a second act when you’ve already been dubbed the “greenest governor in America”? That’s what some conservationists have ...
