NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - On March 1, 1894, two African American men broken into a rural home in what is current day Franklin Township and murdered a white woman and her daughter before her husband fought and killed the attackers.

The "Franklin Park Tragedy," as newspapers called it, made headlines across the country.

Another tragedy came afterward when racists forced the expulsion of many local African American residents

Author Brian Armstrong will talk about his book, "The Franklin Park Tragedy," at the Harry Guest House at 58 Livingston Ave. next to the New Brunswick Free Public Library on Nov. 21 at 7 p.m. The program is presented by the New Brunswick Historical Society and The Friends of the New Brunswick Free Public Library.

The program is free and open to the public.
