Mediation: An Antidote for Stress at 7 p.m.

Where: The New Brunswick Free Public Library

Explore the healing power of meditation and learn how to create peace in your life in spite of the stress around you with this free program offered at the New Brunswick Public Library.

This simple technique can be practiced daily for health, serenity, and joy. You will be able to have a firsthand demonstration. Facilitated by Jim Rose, M. Ed, a retired executive with Johnson & Johnson and a long-time meditator.


Tuesday, October 8

The Museum at Buccleuch Mansion Open House from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: The Buccleuch Mansion

Come and visit the Museum at Buccleuch Mansion on Easton Avenue for free from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The late 1730’s mansion is fully restored and the first and second floors are open to the public.  Rooms represent the various periods of the families that lived in the house, with Colonial, Victorian and Federal periods of furniture and accessories on display.

The last tour starts at 3:30 p.m. Suggested donation at the door to help with preservation and conservation in our historic house.  Private tours for five or more can be arranged with a one-week notice.  Contact the museum at buccleuchmuseum@gmail.com.

History of Spanish and Italian Immigrants in New Jersey at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Rutgers Academic Building

The Alborada Spanish Dance Theatre presents an educational and entertaining lecture-demonstration that focuses on Spain's 300 years rule over Sicily and Naples.

Jim Norton: Special Event at 7:30 p.m.

Where: The Stress Factory Comedy Club

American stand up comedian, radio personality, bestselling author and actor, Jim Norton is the co-host of The Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show that can be heard every morning on SiriusXM Satellite Radio. His latest stand up special, “Mouthful of Shame” is streaming now on Netflix where Jim lays out a full serving of refreshingly unapologetic humor in his first Netflix comedy special.

Cook’s Market 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Where: The Rutgers Gardens Cook Market

Rutgers Gardens Cook's Market provides a well-managed and organized farm market for both the local farmer/producer and patron. Our aim is to encourage the development of local agricultural and specialty products, as well as promote local economic development and community building through educational and family-friendly activities. Since 2008, the Farmers Market has promoted land stewardship by practicing sustainable growing practices and providing the community nutritious, quality food.

New Brunswick Oktoberfest from 12 to 5 p.m.

Where: New Brunswick City Center

Paint Nite: Sunflower Duo at 2 p.m.

Where: On the Border Mexican Grill and Cantina

Grab your friends and eat some delicious Mexican food while unleashing your inner artist at the Original Paint Nite.

Attendees will go from a blank canvas to a masterpiece of their own, with plenty of laughs along the way. Guided by a talented and entertaining artist, painters will be amazed at what they create, and how much fun they have doing it.

Fall Festival from 12 to 4 p.m.

Where: Rutgers Gardens

Join Rutgers for a fun-filled, family-friendly day in the Gardens. Explore the many different areas in the Gardens as you  Trunk or Treat for candy and prizes, play lawn games in the Evergreen Garden with members of the honors/service fraternity Alpha Zeta or stop by the School of Rock “Instrument Petting Zoo” for a chance to pet a real live instrument.
