NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - The Mercado Esperanza, a festival of food and fun celebrating the cultural and artistic spirit of New Brunswick’s diverse population and Esperanza Neighborhood, will be held Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Joyce Kilmer Park.
The Mercado Esperanza is also a showcase for local New Brunswick vendors and a fun family event in the style of a Latin American plaza.
The market events at Joyce Kilmer Park feature local food and craft vendors, entertainers, musicians, artists and more.
The lineup of arts and culture presentations at market starts at 1 p.m. with a Theater of Hope children's performance. At 1:45 p.m. Middlesex County Freeholder Kenneth Armwood will take part in a storybook reading for kids. At 2 p.m., the Mazarte Dance Company will hold a Mexican folk dance performance. At 5 p.m., Grupo de Danza Folklorica La Sagrada Familia will present a children's dance performance.
The Mercado runs monthly from spring to fall on Sunday afternoons. Parking is available at Joyce Kilmer Park and on surrounding streets.
Purchases made at the event go directly support local micro-enterprises, with 100% of the profits going to vendors.
The Mercado Esperanza is a community-led initiative sponsored by Elijah’s Promise, New Brunswick Tomorrow, and coLAB Arts that was born in late 2017.
