NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - New Brunswick High School will host an in-person graduation ceremony on July 8 for the Class of 2020.
The ceremony will take place outdoors at Memorial Stadium a 975 Joyce Kilmer Ave.
Students and two invited guests will be required to wear face coverings and will be scheduled to attend one of three separate ceremonies.
Additional ceremony sessions may be required if Gov. Phil Murphy sets a cap on the maximum number of attendees per ceremony.
Additional details will be forthcoming pending further guidelines enacted by Murphy, according to a post by principal Ken Redler on social media.
Murphy announced on Tuesday that schools would be allowed to host graduation ceremonies so long as they adhere to social distancing policies.
“To the Class of 2020, I am proud to say that you will have your opportunity to join with your classmates and families to celebrate your graduation,” Murphy said in his daily media briefing.
On June 8,-10, seniors will receive their caps and gowns.
Students will receive an assigned time and date to come to the high school between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.to pick up their caps and gowns
Receiving a cap and gown does not guarantee graduation.
While the seniors are on site, if they need to go to their lockers to retrieve personal belongings, students will be allowed in the building on a rotating basis to ensure social distancing requirements are followed. Students must wear face coverings when picking up caps and gowns and stay 6 feet apart when entering the building.
Students that have sporting equipment will return their gear when they come for their caps and gowns.
Students that have personal items in team lockers will hav ethe opportunity to retrieve their items the day they are scheduled to pick up their caps and gowns.
The Senior Awards Ceremony will take place virtually on June 16. Seniors that are receiving an award will receive an invitation to attend this virtual event.
Return of Chromebooks, textbooks and payment of fines will take place on the following dates/times: Friday, June 19, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; Monday, June 22, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.; Tuesday, June 23, 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
