PISCATAWAY, NJ – Mikey Wojcik, a 12-year old Piscataway student suffered tremendous loss in his short life. On January 21, 2015, he lost his dad to pancreatic cancer and shortly after also lost his uncle to cancer.
However, through all of this tragedy, he was able to start a fundraiser to raise money to purchase new toys for the children at the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ). Mikey’s older sister helps her brother in an effort that he says will put smiles on the children’s faces after enduring rounds of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.
“After kids receive treatment, the nurses like to give them a new toy to take with them,” said Mikey.
Last March, Mikey raised over $3,000 which allowed him to deliver three loads of new toys for pediatric patients at CINJ and is planning to do more fundraising early next year.
He wrote a post on his mother’s Facebook page thanking the public for their support.
“Hi this is Mikey and I will [sic] like to thank all the people that donated to my fundraiser,” he wrote.
“We were able to make 3 really good trips to CINJ for the kids who are sick. I know that it made a lot of kids’ days better which made me feel good and so did they. Even if it just made one kid's day a week, hey that is better than no one having a good day. I hope that everyone who donated will do so again and tell a friend because hey, these kids need all the joy they could get in their lives. I hope you guys donate again early next year when donations will be allowed again. Thank you so much and have a great day.”
