FRANKLIN (Somerset County) - A New Brunswick man has been arrested and charged in the May 18 shooting death of a Franklin man in Naaman Williams Park, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.
Police say Najee K. Croom aka “Na Murder”, 27, of New Brunswick shot David D. Anderson, 30, of Franklin multiple times at the park during a large gathering of people. Police say Anderson was taken to an area hospital by a civilian and died of his injuries while undergoing treatment.
"A six-month investigation was conducted by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, the Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Franklin Township Police Department which resulted in numerous witness interviews being conducted during the follow-up investigation," Robertson said in a news release.
Croom was charged with first degree murder, second degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and second degree unlawful possession of a weapon, police say.
Croom was served with his criminal complaint at the Middlesex County Corrections Center where he has been held since May 29 on unrelated charges stemming from Middlesex County police say. He will remain held pending a detention hearing.
Robertson thanked members of the New Brunswick Police Department, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) and the North Carolina Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
