NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - A 65-year-old man has been sentenced to serve 10 years in state prison for exposing himself and touching himself in front of children at a park in Perth Amboy last year.
Antonio Nieves, aka Antonio Chapparro, of Perth Amboy, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Benjamin Bucca after he was found guilty of endangering the welfare of a child and lewdness, according to a press release from Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet on Thursday.
Bucca ordered Nieves to serve five years in prison before he will be eligible for parole.
According to the press release, Bucca also ordered Nieves' 18-month term for lewdness to run concurrent to the 10-year term.
Nieves will be placed on parole supervision for life upon his release from prison, according to Bucca's orders. He will also be subject to Megan’s Law as a sex offender.
Nieves was found guilty by a jury on June 19, 2019, of endangering the welfare of a child in the third degree and lewdness in the fourth degree.
Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Vanessa Craveiro presented evidence at trial that on June 24, 2018, at the Perth Amboy Waterfront near the War Memorial, Nieves exposed and touched himself in front of a 15-year-old child and other children of varying ages.
Nieves was arrested and charged following an investigation by Det. Luis Corro and Det. Raymond Nolasco-Lorenzo of the Perth Amboy Police Department.
