NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - City police are investigating an aggravated assault and a robbery which were reported to have occurred early Saturday morning, according to a press release issued by the Rutgers Police Department.

In one incident, a man was assaulted by a group of males at about 2 a.m. on Wyckoff Street in the area of Bartlett Street following a verbal altercation.

The group of males assaulted the man, who was then taken to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

According to Rutgers Police, the man is not affiliated with the university.

In the other incident, a woman was shoved and had "an item of value" removed at about 2:55 a.m. on Easton Avenue between Prosper and Bristol streets, police said.

The woman, who is not affiliated with Rutgers, was approached by four or five males. After the robbery, they left the area.

According to Rutgers Police, the woman sustained a minor injury and refused medical attention at the scene.

Police said the description of the alleged perpetrators in both incidents "are limited."
