PISCATAWAY, NJ – A roof fire at the central heating and cooling plant for two Rutgers campuses prompted the evacuation of the facility Friday morning.

According to a Rutgers spokesperson, university police received a fire alarm at 10:21 a.m. from the Bush Campus cogeneration plant located at 592 Titsworth Place in Piscataway.

Officials said the fire was deemed accidental, the result of duct work removal from the building which is being renovated.

Fire crews from Piscataway’s River Road and Possumtown fire companies quickly knocked down the fire which did not cause a lot of damage, said officials.

There were no injuries and no power outages reported because of the fire, said officials.

The cogeneration plant provides power to the Livingston and Bush Campuses.
