NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Sara Djibatche, 11 year old sixth grader at Allen W. Roberts School in New Providence, recently won a medal at the National Jr. Olympic Cross Country Championships in Charlotte, NC. She earned a medal in the 3K race in a personal best time of 12:17.

Sara qualified for the National Championships by placing in the top 30 individual runners at the USATF Regional Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships in Youngwood, PA.

She trains with the WolfPack Track Club out of Berkeley Heights three times a week. The workouts include hill sprints, long runs, and regular sprints, said Sara. They also incorporate hard endurance, speed and pace training into their workouts, she said. You may also see Sara running with her dad on weekends during their six mile runs through New Providence, Summit and Berkeley Heights.

She has shaved about four minutes from her time since she first started running with the WolfPack on August 28 of this year.

Sara's strategy when she starts a race is to "start off really hard to get into the top 20," said Sara. "Then, I slow down over time depending on my placement. Finally, in the end I sprint hard, but mainly I just give it my all and push harder at the end."

When she's not hitting the running trails, she enjoys reading, having fun with family and friends and binge watching TV shows. "But mainly, outside of running, I enjoy RUNNING!!!" she said.
