New Providence Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Program for Adults is well underway with several weekly prizes already awarded.  It’s not too late to participate.  The program runs through July so there are still prizes and another few weeks to go.  Prizes are awarded weekly and there are some wonderful Grand Prizes.

Discussion questions are posted on the library’s GoodReads Online Reading Group page and the library’s Facebook page for online participants.  Discussion question forms are available on request in the library for those who don’t want to participate online.  Responses to weekly questions are eligible for weekly prize drawings.  Registration is not required, you can participate for as many weeks as you like and there is no required reading list.  Just respond to each week’s question based on what you’re currently reading and you’re entered into the week’s drawing.

Prizes have been donated by New Providence businesses and include gift certificates to Cartridge World, A&P, Prestige Diner, NP Fuel, Beyond Delicious and McGrath’s.  A drawing for grand prizes will take place on July 30th at the end-of-program party.  They include gift certificates to Feathers Salon, M&M Liquors and a $25 Visa gift card donated by TAPinto Alternative Press.  We have already awarded prizes donated by Starbucks and Rebecca Perlman Coniglio, LCSW.

This year’s theme, “Escape the Ordinary” inspired an Origami program which will take place on Tuesday, July 14 at 7PM with Mary Kao.  Mary is an origami artist and storyteller who uses stories and folk tales to teach the folding sequences of origami, an art form where flat sheets of paper are transformed into sculpture through folding without the use of glue or cutting.  The program will be hands on and you will be making a project to take home.  No experience is needed, the program is free and supplies will be provided.  It’s suitable for adults and kids ages 12 and up.

With a new head coach who just came on board in late April, we had a lot of things to do without much time. Most people would say being on a 1-9 football team would be no fun and, at times, it wasn’t, but it was the ...
