NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The Allen W. Roberts (AWR) Elementary School’s PTA held its 10th annual Spring Fling 2013, Denim and Gold, at Basking Ridge County Club on Friday Evening.  The festivities began at 7 p.m. and lasted until 11 p.m. with guests enjoying dinner, drinks, music, a silent auction, basket raffles, and a 50/50.  The Spring Fling had nearly 200 guests attending including the families of students, community members, and school staff and faculty.

AWR’s Principal, Gina Hanson attended the event.  She said that the PTA had "very caring volunteers."  She was also pleased that the evening was an opportunity to “bring together the AWR community.”  Her secretary, Joyce Luzzi was also at Denim and Gold. She said, “I wouldn’t miss this fun evening.”

PTA President Carolyn Glatz was also enthusiastic about the Spring Fling.  She said, “It is a wonderful event.”  She also pointed out that the funds raised have been very important for the students of AWR.

The PTA event is the biggest annual fundraiser and helps to support many of the school’s programs including Theatre Week, Staff Appreciation, Teacher Wish Lists, and the Science Fair. Last year’s profits were used to fund the library renovation project which was a very big success.  This year, a portion of the profits will go to the beautification of AWR’s school gym which also serves as the auditorium where all the concerts and assemblies are held.  There are also plans to upgrade the North Court recess area with games and equipment for the children and storage sheds.

The evening offered guests a chance to win over $25,000 in prizes which included Golf Outings, Dinner Packages, Tickets to Bon Jovi and Fleetwood Mac, an Apple I-Pad, Spa Treatments, A Weekend Getaway for Two at Woodloch Spa, Sports Tickets, and Autographed Sports Memorabilia.

Many of the guests arrived early to see the wide variety of prizes.  Lynn Culver is a school parent.  She commented about the selection of baskets and gifts saying they were “absolutely gorgeous.”

This year’s Denim and Gold Co-Chairs were Suzanne Botvinis, Jennifer Kowantz, BethAnn Nook and Lea Monaco. BethAnn Nook said that they started planning Denim and Gold in September and were contacting businesses for donations early in the fall.

Lea Monaco was delighted to be one of the Co-Chairs working to organize the Spring Fling.  She said, “The committee was amazing.”

Suzanne Botvinis agreed.  She said that the members of committee are personal friends and it was easy for them to come together to work as a group.  Botvinis is very involved with AWR and has co-chaired the Spring Fling for the past two years.   She said, “This event really benefits the children.  With school budget cuts, the funds raised really supplement the needs of the school.”

Jennifer Kowantz explained the significance of the theme, Denim and Gold.  There is a lot of school spirit that is a part of the AWR’s Annual Spring Fling.  Denim and Gold worked perfectly to represent the school colors of blue and yellow.

The Allen W. Roberts School PTA’s Spring Fling 2013, Denim and Gold, was a very successful event that gave the New Providence community an opportunity to enjoy the company of neighbors and friends while supporting the education of AWR’s students.
