BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights YMCA hosted their second annual Pride Celebration event on Friday at Columbia Park.

The YMCA partnered with the Gov. Livingston High School SAGA Club to bring more awareness to the community about pride. "We partnered with them based upon our diversity and inclusion initiative the Y is doing," said Berkeley Heights YMCA Executive Director Tiffany Escott. "This event is a great way to do a celebration -- anyone can come." She envisioned this being a family event where people could bring a picnic dinner. The SAGA Club was instrumental in planning the festive event and activities.

The Berkeley Heights Diversity Council had a table at Friday's event with two free drawings -- for a set of young adult romance novels that focus on the LGBTQ community and the second raffle was for a pair of Rainbow checkered Vans slip-ons. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Trevor Project . The Summit Junior League also had a table at the event.

The SAGA Club has spearheaded change and are spreading awareness for the LGBTQ community. They hope to create a curriculum that inspires everyone to be accepting.
