NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Former Notre Dame National Champion and football captain Ned Bolcar made a recent appearance at the New Providence Reds Baseball game at Oakwood Park in New Providence on Sunday July 8.
Bolcar, also an ex-NFL player with the Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins is currently the owner of Orangetheory Fitness, located in the Village Shopping Center in New Providence. Bolcar who played the position of linebacker, was a two-time second team All-American (1987,1989) at Notre Dame and captained the 1988 championship team.
The Reds invited Bolcar to come speak to the team and throw out the first pitch. Orangetheory Fitness has been proud sponsors of the Reds for the past three seasons. For more information on Orangetheory Fitness and to signup for your first class for free visit their website.
And for those wondering, Bolcar threw a perfect strike!
As for the game, the Reds would fall short to the Jersey City Vipers by a score of 2-0. Pitcher Harry Cohen pitched eight strong innings, striking out nine while only allowing one earned run on four hits.
Nick Sommo, Tyler DeGeorge and Ariel Melendez picked up the hits for the Reds.
The Reds are managed by Matt Sommo and Sal Nesto, both of New Providence and both former coaches on the college level. This season, the Reds are also sponsored by the Chimney Rock Inn, with locations in Gillette and Bound Brook.
The Reds are a part of the New Jersey Amateur Baseball League (NJABL) and were the Metal Division Champions in 2013 and 2014 and the Intermediate Wood Champions in 2016.
