NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Led by a combined nine points from junior Quinn Killeen and senior Jack Harvey, the New Providence boys’ lacrosse team defeated Delaware Valley, 13-8, on Monday at Lieder Field.
Killeen scored a game-high five goals, while Harvey added four goals and four assists, as the Pioneers improved to 9-2 on the season.
“Our guys were finishing all game long inside the crease,” Pioneers coach Vinny Carangelo. “We were making great passes and just executing our offense out there today, which was great to see.”
The Pioneers used their explosive offense to get out in front early. Less than two minutes into the contest, New Providence scored two quick goals and led 5-3 at the half.
After Delaware Valley scored three unanswered goals to take the lead in the early stages of the second half, the Pioneers offense went right back on the attack.
New Providence outscored Del Val 6-2 the rest of the game, in route to their second consecutive victory.
“It’s good to get a win against a solid team like Delaware Valley,” Harvey said. “We got some great looks around the crease and on some fast breaks that we took advantage today. Also we were feeding each other with great passes today all around, so it was good offensive day for us.”
The game also marked a career marker for Killeen, who said it was the first time ever in his life he scored five goals in a game.
“We moved the ball very well today,” added Killeen. “I just tried to get open every time we had possession, and the guys were able to find me for a great look at the net. All of us today just played really well together.
Juniors Johnny Shahpazian and Jake Vignali, were also key contributors to the Pioneers win. Shahpazian had a goal and three assists, while Vignali won an 21 face-offs in the game.
New Providence return to action on Wednesday when they visit Oratory Prep for a 4 p.n. tilt.
