NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Johnny Shahpazian opened the 2016 season with a bang, as the senior scored five times to lead the New Providence boys’ lacrosse team past Voorhees, 11-6, at Lieder Field on Wednesday.

Shahpazian recorded six total points in the Pioneers’ opening day victory, leading all scorers.

Fellow senior Quinn Killeen added a five-point performance that included four assists to eclipse the 150-point plateau.

All together six New Providence players recorded a goal, including two from Kevin Vass.

Senior goalkeeper Garrett Pope made 11 saves.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday when they visit Chatham for a 12 p.m.match at Cougar Field.
