Boys Soccer: New Providence Defeats Dayton, 2-0, to Split Season Series

SPRINGFIELD, NJ – The Jonathan Dayton Bulldogs played their third division game in four days and ended up losing to New Providence 2-0 to split the season’s series.

Going into the game, New Providence was ranked seventh in Group 1 and Dayton was ranked eighth. 

New Providence scored in each half.  The first goal came early in the first half and second came late in the second half.

Dayton’s goalie Will Hodic stopped six shots and New Providence’s goalie Dillon Konzelmann stopped twelve shots.

The New Providence goals were scored by Matt Byrnes and James Miller.   An assist was made by Dillon Konzelmann.

New Providence (7-2) goes into Saturday's first round of the Union County Tournament as the 7th seed hosting 8th seed Plainfield at Lieder Field with a 4 p.m. start. The winner of that game plays at No. 1 seed Westfield High School on October 14 in a quarterfinal game.  

The semifinal games for the tournament are on October 21 and the final game is on Sunday October 27 at Kean University.
