NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — The New Providence boys soccer team took on undefeated, untied Oratory Prep and took the Rams to overtime before falling, 2-1, on Thursday.
Doug Colandrea's goal in overtime gave Oratory (7-0) the victory after the teams battled through a scoreless second half despite the Rams having a wide advantage in shots attempted.
Oratory took a 1-0 lead with 14:00 left in the first half when Sebastian Bjorkeson finished a run with a goal from the right side of the box.
New Providence, which started to flip the field and go on the attack more in the final 10 minutes of the first half, broke through with 5:47 left when Christian Muller knocked home a rebound after Jack Ponte's corner kick, one of several Pioneers set pieces in the final few minutes of the opening half.
Jack Schatzman finished with 10 saves for New Providence, which was outshot, 12-3, overall. Marcelo Friere and Nick Carnevale had assists for the Rams.
Oratory has won all seven of its games this fall, but in only one of those contests have the Rams scored more than two goals.
