CHATHAM, NJ - Chatham Middle School students were evacuated from the building about 11 a.m. Wednesday morning after construction workers at the school hit a gas main.

Members of the Chatham Borough Police Department and Chatham Borough Volunteer Fire Department said that the evacuation was precautionary and that PSE&G would determine when it was safe to return.

CMS students were moved to the lower fields behind the school and to the playground area near the tennis courts for safety.
