The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is pleased to announce that a free “Seat Check Saturday” child safety seat inspection event has been added to the County’s regular safety seat inspection program at the AAA Care Care Center, located at 135 Route 22 East in Springfield.

The extra day will be held on Saturday, September 20 from 9:00 a.m. to noon, when Union County will join in the national Child Passenger Safety campaign. The weeklong initiative is intended to raise awareness about proper child safety seat use, capped off by Seat Check Saturday on September 20.

“Union County’s free child safety seat inspection program has provided parents and caregivers with potentially life-saving guidance since 1999,” said Freeholder Chairman Christopher Hudak. “We are very proud to join in Seat Check Saturday, to encourage drivers to have their safety seats checked for proper installation and usage.”

The County’s ongoing free child safety seat inspection program takes place every Wednesday and Thursday morning at the AAA Car Care Center, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. No appointment is necessary.

“We hope that by adding the extra hours on September 20, we can make this free service available to more Union County residents,” said Hudak. “If you can’t stop by on September 20, you can visit during our regularly scheduled hours on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.”

The inspections are conducted by trained personnel in the Union County Department of Public Safety.

Motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death for children over the age of six months. Safety seats can make a life-or-death difference, but with dozens of different types on the market even an experienced parent may need help to adjust the fastenings properly.

Union County began offering free child safety seat inspections in 1999, and the program has grown into one of the County’s most widely used services. In 2009 the program moved from a County facility into a more conveniently located space donated by AAA Car Care Center on Route 22.

National Child Passenger Safety Week takes place from Sunday, September 14 to Saturday, September 20.

And Over Here is the Dining Hall 2

My very first job in admissions was while I was still an undergraduate myself as a tour guide.  Very early on they indoctrinated us with some tricks of the trade.  It’s a dining hall, not a cafeteria.  A residence hall, not a dorm.  If you have to divulge some negative bit of information, sandwich it between two positives.  There were instructions for glossing over ...
