This year’s Easter Egg Hunt at Oakwood Park will be celebrating the 43th anniversary of the New Providence Lions Club. It will take place on Saturday March 31st at 9:30 am with the Easter Bunny arriving at 9:15 am. Balloons, lollipops and EMS vehicles for family viewing will start at 9:00 am. All age groups are invited to enjoy this Lion’s club event but the egg hunt will be limited to pre-K to 2nd grade. Rain date is the following Saturday.
For the past 43 years each New Providence Lion has been directed by the Easter Bunny to gather 5 - dozen, brightly colored hard-boiled eggs. The Easter Bunny then adds a group of specially marked eggs that offer a prize to the lucky child that finds it.
Around 150 to 200 families participate in this yearly event and the Easter Bunny requests that all participants arrive before the 9:15 am Easter bunny arrival due to popularity of the event and limited nearby parking. This is a great time to take pictures with your children to embarrass them when they’re 16.
“The Lions Easter Egg hunt has become a New Providence tradition, with parents that participated as children having their children get the same thrill they did,” noted Tom Montrone, Lions club member and committee chairman. “The event adds to the overall warm sense of community that abounds in New Providence.”
On June the 4th the Lions club will hold our golf outing that is a major fundraising effort to support the community and the mission of the club. The golf outing is held at Beaver Brook Country Club in Annadale, NJ in honor of Frank A. Pizzi Jr. We also had our annual 50/50 raffle drawn just before the Christmas holiday.
100% of the donations accepted by the New Providence Lions Club go directly back to the community. Some examples of Lions Club giving in the past:
- Support of Lions Clubs Eye Sight Programs.
- Eye Mobile / Eye Exams
- Eyeglasses support for local residents
- College Scholarships for High School Students
- Public Safety Programs including the fire department and EMS volunteers
- Recreation Team Sponsorships
