Family Promise will host its annual "Fall Fling" fundraiser Friday, November 4, from 7-11 p.m., at Canoe Brook Country Club. The Summit-based, national non-profit will honor its founder, Karen Olson, who retired earlier this year and will celebrate its vision of a nation in which every child has a home. Civic leader and former Summit Mayor, Janet Whitman, will serve as Honorary Chair for the event.

"Fall Fling" is the most significant fundraiser each year for Family Promise, the nation’s leading nonprofit helping homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence. The evening includes a cocktail buffet and both live and silent auctions to raise funds for the continued support and development of Affiliates nationwide. Last year, more than 175 friends and supporters attended the event, which raised nearly $280,000.

Founded in Summit in 1988 to address homelessness in Union County, Family Promise has grown into a national organization with 202 Affiliates in 42 states. Since then, Family Promise has served more than 700,000 people, the majority of them children. Family Promise Affiliates serve nearly 60,000 people each year by providing shelter, food, and a host of other comprehensive support services.

Most people would say being on a 1-9 football team would be no fun and, at times, it wasn’t, but it was the ...
