NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - On Sunday, March 31, the Council of Faith Lutheran in New Providence, which consists of 22 persons, conducted a brunch for the members of Faith.  It was the first of what is likely to become a tradition each fifth Sunday.  There are four in a calendar year.  In 2019, the Sundays are in March, June, September and December.

The delicious dishes and luscious tastes of the brunch were prepared by the Council and members of Faith.  While participants enjoyed the food, they also liked the opportunity to visit with each other.

Also occurring on the recent fifth Sunday, was a second change to the typical Sunday morning at Faith.  Instead of the two services, one at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 11 a.m., one service at 10 a.m. was offered.

The brunch and single service were decided upon by the Council at its annual weekend retreat in February.  The following prompted these determinations.

In 2018, the Council engaged the members of Faith in a written survey.  One of the purposes was to learn how the Council could better support the members.  A strong answer was, “Have more social activities.” The Council responded with the Fifth Sunday Brunch.

Generally speaking, the members of Faith, who attend the 8:30 a.m. service, are at that service each Sunday.  Similarly, those at the 11 a.m. service usually attend that service every Sunday.  The 10 a.m. service and brunch gave an opportunity for members to become better acquainted with those whom they have had limited contact.

Faith Lutheran welcomes all and conducts an open communion table.
