Free Broadway 'Sampler Workshop' Series Starts Oct. 8 at The Connection

SUMMIT, NJ - Professional dancer, singer, and actress Greta Martin will take students on a tour of Broadway dance, when The Connection hosts a free, thee-part 'Broadway Sampler' workshop series on successive Saturdays -- October 8, 15, and 22 -- from 1 - 2:15 p.m.

Martin will start with the classic, Hello Dolly! on October 8, then, move on to the best selling novel and movie, The Color Purple on October 15, and finish with the current blockbuster smash  hit, Hamilton on October 22.

In each session, Martin will teach a dance routine to a song from the show of the week after doing a center and cross the floor warm up. Participants are instructed to wear jazz shoes or jazz sneakers, with some dance experience is recommended.

Martin, as a professional dancer / singer / actress, trained at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center New York City; performed on Broadway (Guys & Dolls); in film (School Daze); on television (Showtime at the Apollo); and toured nationally and internationally (West Side Story).  Her professional career now includes being a certified Athletic Fitness Association of America (AFAA) group fitness instructor and a licensed GYROKINESIS exercise method trainer.

The workshop, free and open to the public, is for teens and adults ages 13 and up. Space is limited, and registration is required and available by calling 908-273-4242 or visit The Connection at 79 Maple Street. Participants can attend any or all of the workshops.

Funding for the program has been made possible in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs.
