GAF Materials Corporation is pleased to announce the winners of its GAF 2010 Special Scholarship. Kevin T. Sunyak and Evan Alvarez were each awarded $2500 per year for up to four years of college undergraduate study. The scholarship was established in 1987 for sons and daughters of full-time employees and winners are selected by the National Merit Scholarship Association based on test scores, academic records, leadership, and extra-curricular achievements.

Recipient Kevin T. Sunyak is the son of Thomas Sunyak, an Operations Controller at GAF. Kevin currently attends New Providence High School in New Providence, NJ and will be attending Penn State College of Engineering in University Park, PA with a planned major in Engineering. He played two years of varsity lacrosse and soccer, is captain of the soccer club, and is active in the men's choir and church youth club. Kevin is also a member of the National Honor Society and the National French Honor Society.

Recipient Evan Alvarez is currently attending Baker High School in Mobile, AL and plans to attend the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa with an intended major in English. He is the Hi-Q captain, captain of the Scholars-Bowl, captain of the Scholastic Challenge, and a counselor at Camp SMILE. Evan is also a charter member and vice president of the Spanish National Honors Society, and is a Red Ribbon finalist. His father, Kirk Alvarez, is a Felt Mill Superintendent at the GAF plant in Mobile, AL.
