Gazaway Wins NJSIAA Wrestling Region 3 Championship En Route to State Championships

UNION, NJ -Tyler Gazaway captured the NJSIAA Region 3 Championship title in the 145 pound weight class by pinning Vince Concina of Cranford in 2:40. Gazaway had a pin in the quarters and a 13-0 major decision against Union's Nick Zuena in the semis.

Earlier in the season, Gazaway, a senior, broke the school record for most wins at New Providence High School set by Ross Baldwin and Shane Mallory in 2005. Gazaway, now 39-0, has added 15 more wins to the record tally as he makes his third consecutive trip to Atlantic City. Gazaway is a three time Union County Champion, three time District 12 Champion and  a repeat Region 3 Champion. 

 

Stay tuned, as Gazaway goes after his quest for the State Championship title in Atlantic City. The 2016 NJSIAA Wrestling Championships will be held March 4, 5, 6 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The tournament will be seeded Feb. 29.

Other New Providence Region Championship Results:

Sophomore Owen Smith (120 pounds) advanced to the quarterfinals and lost by pinfall at 5:27 by number 3 seed Kevin Jones from Parsippany.

Junior Christopher Reynolds (170 pounds) faced number 6 seed Jack Miller of Westfield and lost a 6-0 decision in the preliminary round.
