NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The Lady Pioneers defeated Holmdel effortlessly, 63-39, in Wednesday night's NJSIAA Tournament, Quarterfinal Round, Central Jersey, Group 2. Katie Kinum led the way, scoring 28 points, followed by Sarah Zeto with 13 points, and Hannah Caminiti with 12 points.
The Lady Pioneers for the second straight playoff game have defeated their opponents by more than 20 points -- defeating Bordentown by 31 points on Monday. Next, the Pioneers will face a tough challenge against Rumson-Fair Haven, a 21-6 team, with similar success on the court.
Coming into Friday’s game against Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs, the defense will surely focus on Hannah Scanlan, who is averaging a double -double for the season, with 20.9 points and 11.4 rebounds a game. But even if New Providence manages to slow down Scalan, they will still need to worry about Tori Hyduke, who is averaging 14.9 points a game and 6.1 assists a game.
The Lady Pioneers will need to see more double digit scoring from a variety of players, like their game against Holmdel if they hope to be successful. The Bulldogs faced Holmdel earlier in the season, narrowly escaping with the 52-50 win.
New Providence is scheduled to face the Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs on Friday March 3rd at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School with a 5 p.m. tipoff.
