NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — The New Providence girls volleyball team jumped out to a huge early lead and coasted home with a 25-3, 25-11 victory over University in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA Central Jersey, Group 1 tournament on Thursday.

Dani Bloom came through with six kills and a block, and Mikayla Lawler also had one block to go with one kill for the Pioneers (6-7).

Audrey Thompson finished with two digs, four service points and one ace for New Providence, which also got three kills and one dig from Kalina Kornacki; two kills, one dig, 12 service points and one ace from Elizabeth Blank; a team-high 14 service points as well as two kills and five assists from Olivia Catalano; and two kills from Alexy Eng.

New Providence will move on to the section semifinals Saturday against McNair Academic in New Providence. The other sectional semifinal will match Roselle Park against top-seeded Dayton on Saturday, with the winners advancing to the sectional final Tuesday, April 20.
