Helping the Homeless is Old Guard Topic

Richard Johnson will tell Summit Old Guard members how SHIP (Summit Helping Its People) supports the area homeless.  The March 26 presentation will be at the 10 a.m. meeting at the New Providence Municipal Center.  Ship’s goal is to assist homeless and at risk homeless not served by other programs in the Summit area.

The talk will cover the important SHIP programs and the opportunities to serve the Summit area as a volunteer.

Richard Johnson is a graduate of Kansas State University.  He was a Naval Officer during the Vietnam War.  He has held executive positions in banking, finance and specialty food import sales.  He is a board member of SHIP.

All area 50-plus active men are invited to attend meetings of the Summit Area Old Guard on Tuesday mornings at the New Providence Municipal Center at 360 Elkwood Avenue.  A coffee hour starts at 9:15 that is followed by a 10 AM short business meeting. Old Guard members participate in sports, bridge, hikes, trips, plays, concerts and cultural events.  Members will travel to Philadelphia in April to visit the newly designed Barnes Museum.  Call Ralph Ortega at 908-244-4384 for more information or log on to the website:  www.summitoldguard.homestead.com.
