BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Local Ninja Anthony DeFranco, advanced to the American Ninja Warrior city finals in Baltimore to be aired Monday, August 12 at 8 p.m. on NBC. DeFranco is a four-time American Ninja Warrior contestant and regional director of American Ninja Warrior Camps across New Jersey at Centercourt Athletic Club in Chatham.
DeFranco's Season 11 City Qualifier Run in Baltimore aired on July 1. He completed the course, ringing the buzzer in 2:07.38, which placed him third out of the 99 contestants. For DeFranco, every step he takes on the road to training is for that one moment “...when you hit that buzzer. That feeling motivates me to keep going and put an entire year's work into that one moment,” he said.
DeFranco exploded onto the American Ninja Warrior scene in 2016 with the "Fastest Run of the Night" in the City Qualifiers of season 8 and season 9 -- making it to Stage 1 of the Las Vegas Finals in both seasons. Last season, he surprisingly slipped on the floating steps obstacle and was eliminated early in the City Qualifier.
Local fans will be tuning into NBC's "American Ninja Warrior" to see if hometown favorite Anthony DeFranco will hit the buzzer and make it to the Vegas Finals.
DeFranco, 25 years old, has been an athlete his whole life and was a member of the track and wrestling teams when he was at Gov. Livingston. He was the 2011 outdoor pole vault state champ before he graduated and continued his pole vaulting career at Rider University.
