NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Residents of New Providence have been hard-hit by Hurricane Irene and many have been living without power since the storm struck on Sunday night.
One of the areas that remains without power is Division Avenue at Lavina Court, where downed trees have obstructed roadways and taken out power lines.
According to Jersey Central Power & Light spokesman Ron Morano, most residents can expect power to be restored by the end of the day.
“JCP&L is working hard in that area today and the majority of customers will be back on tonight, with the rest over the course of the weekend,” he said. “There are a lot of resources being poured into that area as there have been a great deal of tree damage there.”
At present, 2,262 residents remain without power in Union County, 5,437 in Morris County and 1,921 in Essex County.
At this time, the New Providence Police Department has not been briefed by JCP&L as to a timetable for power to be restored.
