NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - From mystery to philosophy to art to biography, there is something for everyone at Lantern Hill’s new library on campus.  On June 25, pioneer residents from the Library Committee at the new Erickson Living continuing care retirement community in New Providence, New Jersey, helped set up the beautiful space by arranging books in categories alphabetically on the shelves.

“Thank you to our dedicated volunteers for their help in creating a library that will be enjoyed by residents for years to come,” said Executive Director Patricia Swan.

Located in Union Square, the large central building on campus, the library includes wooden bookshelves, large windows, comfortable chairs, a reading room with a fireplace, and an outside patio.

Dot Teller, a retired school librarian, and her husband Bob, are chairs of the committee of nine volunteers.  The residents are from diverse backgrounds, but all share a love of reading.

“A big thank you to the committee, “said Dot. “They have been fabulous.”

The group has been getting together a few hours a week for the past few months to sort and label the more than 900 donated books from residents.

“Getting involved is very rewarding, and I’m enjoying getting to know my new neighbors,” said Bob.

Dot and Bob Teller will be moving to Lantern Hill from Westfield, New Jersey, in September.

“We expect the committee to grow as residents move in,” said Bob.  The self-serve Library will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In addition to the Tellers, committee members include George Jonovich, Sandy Feldman, Judy Cornog,  Bob Schultz,  Tom Keiser, Thelma Keiser, and Mary Close.

Residents move into the 161 independent living apartments of Phase 1, which sold out in 10 weeks, this summer followed by the opening of 85 continuing care residences later this year. Within the first few years, the community will add 114 more independent living apartment homes, for a total of 275.

Coach Bottone Tribute

May 19, 2018

2017 Pioneer football players took on a tall task of filling a lot of open spots with not many returning players. We had 30 kids on our football team who all wanted to be there. With a new head coach who just came on board in late April, we had a lot of things to do without much time. Most people would say being on a 1-9 football team would be no fun and, at times, it wasn’t, but it was the ...

The Evaluation of the College Search

It’s is a bizarre time of year as a college counselor as I find myself at both the beginning and end of this process.  Sophomores and juniors are excitedly and idealistically starting to consider what will be important to them in a school.  At the same time, while only separated by a year or two, my seniors have all committed within the past month to a school and have spent the ...
