NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Allstate New Jersey agency owner Ana Galindo of New Providence is doing her part to discourage drivers from the unsafe practice of texting while they drive.

Allstate’s “X the TXT” is a national campaign by the company to raise awareness about the hazards of texting while driving and to encourage teens and their families to pledge not to text and drive.

When New Providence had its annual street fair last Sunday, more than 100 residents took a pledge to put their cell phone down and focus on the road as part of the campaign.

“Everyone is susceptible to distractions behind the wheel,” Galindo said. “Pledging not to text and drive is a simple act that can help ensure those we love come home safely. No text is worth risking a life.”

According to a recent survey from the Allstate Foundation found that 75 percent of teens admit that they find reading and responding to texts distracting when they are behind the wheel, but more than 40 percent admit to texting and driving anyway. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports driver distraction contributes to 25 percent of all police-reported traffic crashes.

When they take the pledge, participants receive thumb bands with the words TXTNG KLLS to wear as a daily reminder of their commitment. Pledge cards are distributed to everyone who makes the pledge to help encourage families to commit to safer driving.

For more information on teen safe driving and other safety and insurance topics, contact Galindo at (908) 464-0090.

Allstate New Jersey Insurance Company services more than 450,000 households throughout New Jersey.

As a college admissions representative the first question most students would ask me was whether ...
