NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - William F. Michenfelder, a longtime New Providence crossing guard, died on Monday at the age of 92.

Michenfelder, a member of the American Legion Post 433 in New Providence and the VFW post 6259 in Berkeley Heights, lived in New Providence for the last 54 years.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lorie Michenfelder (nee Rozwadowski) and his son, Steven Michenfelder and his wife, Deborah. He was the grandfather of Jennifer Michenfelder and her husband, Len Frega, and Stefanie Michenfelder.

Michenfelder served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II before being honorably discharged as a sergeant.

Visitation  will be on Thursday, July 9, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, South Street in New Providence. Interment will follow at St. Teresa's Cemetery in Summit.
