The Summit Area YMCA swim team functions not only as a team, but as a family of supportive members who encourage and guide each other. The team runs as a cooperative effort of swimmers, coaches, professional Y staff, and parents.
“As a competitive swim program, our goal is to offer a high quality program that enables team members to develop their full potential as individuals and athletes, said Laura Riddell, Summit YMCA Director of Competitive Aquatics. "We promote character development, good sportsmanship and competitive success in a constructive team environment. Participation on the swim team builds confidence, develops leadership skills, and helps athletes set and achieve goals.”
The team trains year-round at the Summit YMCA’s six-lane, 25-yard pool, complete with state-of-the-art Colorado Timing System. Training moves outdoors in the summer to a 50 meter long course Olympic size pool.  Swimmers participate in dual meets, YMCA championships, as well as USA Swim meets.
“Becoming a member of the Summit Area YMCA swimming family was easily the best decision of my life. I really want to stress that word  – family,” said Tavish, swim team captain for the Summit Area YMCA team. “The environment that has been created on this team is second to none. Everyone, absolutely everyone, affiliated with this team wants to see you succeed and help you get there.”

The Summit Area YMCA swim team embodies the YMCA’s mission to nurture the potential of youth and inspire healthy living in body, mind, and spirit.  As a nonprofit, the YMCA offers financial assistance to qualifying families.
