UNION, NJ – Operation Rebound and Maplecrest Ford Lincoln have partnered together before, but the recent bike relay ride to Walter Reed Medical Center was special.

Operation Rebound NJ Racing Team is a premier sports and fitness program for American military personnel, veterans and first responders with physical challenges. It provides unparalleled opportunities to pursue active, athletic lifestyles by offering access to funding for equipment, training, competition expenses and sports clinics.

The team, including team captain Township of Union police officer Sgt. Michael Boll, began on September 9, and rode 230 miles from Echo Lake Park’s 9/11 Memorial in Mountainside to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD, to deliver over $7,000 in donated gift certificates to disabled combat veterans.

Through their Maplecrest Moves Charities program, Maplecrest Ford Lincoln of Union sponsored the bike ride, providing vans, food and support  “It’s not about the business,” said Jen Miller, Head of Brand Transformation and Consumer Experience at Maplecrest. “It’s about the community.”

“Maplecrest Ford Lincoln is like family to Operation Rebound,” said Boll.  “I can call anytime and they’re there.”

At Walter Reed, the 14 Operation Rebound riders presented the gift cards to and spent time talking with veterans. Comedians Rich Carucci and Frederick Chip Ambrogio donated their time and performed for patients. “It’s about human contact,” said Boll. “It’s about helping vets.”

Maplecrest Ford Lincoln and Operation Rebound, through Miller and Boll, have forged a friendship. “I can always count on them,” said Boll.
