NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ- The Harlem Wizards dunked for the students on Thursday night. Students and parents crowded the bleachers to watch New Providence teachers, coaches, and athletes take on the antics and alley-oops of the Wizards. Kids were invited on to the court for autographs, relay races, and dances. It was fun for all and all for a good cause. The event was coordinated by the New Providence Education Foundation.

The NPEF handed a $89,280 check to the New Providence Board of Education, their largest donation to date. The money will fund grants for programs that cannot be fulfilled by the general budget. The NPEF has raised $750,000 in the fourteen years since its creation.

"It's a great community event. All the kids come out, and they really enjoy the Wizards," said NPEF President Gene Castagna, "And it raises money for the schools.100 percent of all the money we raise goes to the grants that the teachers write. It allows us to help them fund educational programs that would be new to the schools that wouldn't otherwise be covered by the budget."

About NPEF: The members of NPEF and their supporters raise and distribute money for the schools each and every year. These grants are teacher-initiated, help supplement existing programs, and provide for new and innovative efforts, many of which would not otherwise be funded.  Due to the community and local business generosity, over the past year, the NPEF was able to award grants totaling $89,280, which benefited all of the schools in the New Providence school district. Since its inception in 2004, the NPEF has raised over $750,000 to support their teachers, students, and the entire school district.  This could not have been achieved without the hard work of the volunteers who donate their time to the foundation, and the generous financial support from corporate sponsors, many local businesses and families. Their success is dependent upon this support.
