Mary Poppins Character Breakfast at NPHS Officially Introduces the Spring Play

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - They were serving up “a spoonful of sugar,” and quite a bit more at the Character Breakfast this Saturday morning at New Providence High School cafeteria just a week ahead of the March 11th opening night for "Mary Poppins," the Spring Musical.

Along with a wonderful breakfast, there was a painted backdrop where children could get their picture taken with Mary Poppins and the cast, a ”Story Time Corner” with Mary Poppins, an arts and crafts section and a stage set up for the cast to perform songs from "Mary Poppins" for all the guests.

"Mary Poppins" is the musical originated in 1964, starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke. Kara Dobias and Noah Kudman, Mary Poppins and Bert respectively, circulated around the cafeteria having their photographs taken with kids of all ages.

On hand were Craig Duke, NPHS drama teacher and the director of Mary Poppins, Paula Roper, the producer, Leslie Ditta, the choreographer and Pamela Crocket, the musical director. The event brought in over 350 people of all ages in two different seatings. The entire breakfast was sponsored by local businesses that generously donated all the food, flowers and decorations, they were: The Prestige Diner, Moe’s Bistro, New Providence Florist, Barth’s Market, Murray Hill Inn, Taylor Rental, Dunkin Donuts, Acme and The Bagel Café.

"Mary Poppins," The Broadway Musical, will be performed at NPHS at 7:30 p.m. on March 11 and at 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on March 12. Tickets can be purchased by clicking on the “Seat Yourself” link on the NPHS website.
