MADISON, NJ - The Morris & Essex Kennel Club (M&E) will host its All-Breed Match Show as part of the annual Bottle Hill Day, Saturday, October 1 at Dodge Field in Madison.

Along with the five match show rings, the club is hosting “My Dog Fun Day” attractions for all dogs and their owners, including: the AKC “My Dog Can Do That” beginning agility course, two “How to Show” classes with professional handler Norma Smith, a Barn Hunt site, New Jersey Police and Morris County K-9 demonstrations, Pee Wee handling exhibition (children 5 to 9 years of age), Junior Handling exhibition (9 to 18 years old). The event will also feature dog-related products and accessories that will be available from vendors at the site.

"The Morris & Essex Club was founded by Geraldine Rockefeller Dodge, who hosted the club’s annual show near her estate in Madison, from 1927 until the last show in 1957," said Daniel Zilka, Chairman of the Match Show Committee. "Moving the show to Madison has special significance for the Morris & Essex Kennel Club."

“We are thrilled to be holding our event at Bottle Hill Day,” said Zilka,  “Bottle Hill is such a wonderful day for thousands of visitors who attend and we look forward to adding to the excitement with our Match Show and day-long activities for all.”

"In a nod to the past, Morris & Essex is adding a Mixed Breed Dog Competition to the day’s events, which is open to all non-purebred and neutered dogs.  The categories are Most Handsome Boy, Most Beautiful Girl, Child’s Best Friend, Senior/Veteran, Best Rescue, Best Canine Good Citizen," Zilka added. “During the 1940s and ‘50s, the town of Madison was known to host “pet shows” at which families brought out their pets and paraded them for review. People are proud of their pets and are eager to show them off to their friends and neighbors – we hope this is the start of a renewed tradition.”

"When the Club was re-established in 1996, it was decided to hold the grand Morris & Essex point show every five years.  It is one of the largest outdoor dog shows in the United States and is known for its elegance and fashion, as most of the participants dress in the vintage styles that echo the shows held from 1927-1957.  The next prestigious M&E point show will be held in 2020. The sanctioned “B” match shows are held in the off years."

Registration for events is on the day of the Show/Fun Day only from 9:00 am – 12:00 noon. To gain more information information on the Match Show visit:

Sleep out at Covenant House

June 18, 2018

I can enjoy the same movies over and over like it were the first time to see them.  My kids roll their eyes at this.  Well, many unimaginable things happen as you become a certain age, and you tend to learn to accept those things graciously as gift.   But I remember the movie “The Blind Side.”  Until I saw that movie, I didn’t know homeless children ...

What's Hot and What's Not

Summer is a great time to take a step back, sip a cool beverage, and take a look at what’s going on in the world of college admissions.  Departments use the summer to evaluate how their year went and plan on any changes they want to make for the fall.  Did they over-enroll? Under-enroll?  What application materials were useful to them?  Which were redundant or time ...
