NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - An auto accident on South Street in the Murray Hill section shortly after 4:30 p.m. Monday was causing traffic delays through downtown.

The accident, in which a vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole, happened near the intersection of South Street and Southgate just a few blocks from the Murray Hill train station.

Fire companies from New Providence and Berkeley Heights were on the scene, and the driver of the vehicle was trapped inside the car with injuries of unknown severity.

The victim was extricated and transported via NorthSTAR medevac to University Hospital in Newark.
