Nationwide YMCA Membership is Coming in November!

YMCA Members will have access to Y Facilities across the United States

At the Summit Area YMCA, we believe that positive, lasting personal and social change can only come about when the community works together to invest in our youth, our health, and our neighbors. Strengthening the community is the foundation from which the Y was built upon. In order to provide the most meaningful impact, and to realize the Y’s full potential, all Y’s will be open to all Y members, providing safe and welcoming environments for everyone.

The Summit Area YMCA is thrilled to announce the launch of a brand new membership reciprocity program, the Nationwide Membership.  Beginning in November 2017, YMCA memberships will allow members to access YMCA facilities at 2,300 participating Ys throughout the United States and Puerto Rico at no additional cost.

Y members simply bring their Y membership cards and a photo I.D. to the Y they are visiting. There is no limit to the use of other Ys as long as their home Y (where membership is billed) is used at least 50% of their total time. Like the Summit Area YMCA, our network of Ys throughout the country is dedicated to helping members meet their health and wellness goals with state of the art equipment and dedicated instructors! With Nationwide Membership, our members will be connecting to the larger Y community while continuing to meet their healthy living needs.

Gary Cobbs of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery added, “Nationwide Membership benefits members by opening up more locations convenient to them—such as near their workplace or when they are traveling—so they don’t miss any opportunity to pursue their health and wellness goals.”

Please note that some restrictions may apply so please call prior to your visit for details. For questions about Nationwide Membership, please contact the Membership Director at your branch:

Parting Advice from Four Decades on the Front Lines of Local News

November 11, 2017

In February 1978 I walked into the office of The Rahway News-Record and Clark Patriot to begin what I thought was to be a short-term job stepping stone.

Instead, it turned out to be a nearly 40-year odyssey in local journalism—including the last eight—overwhelmingly great—years with The Alternative Press (TapInto.Net).

I Reported It Myself!

Each year there seems to be more schools relying on self-reported test scores and transcripts on their applications.  While they may, in the long run, streamline the application process I’ve seen them cause a good amount of stress during this already stressful process.  Should an optional test score self-report be filled in?  How do I know whether to mark my class as a ...
