NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The New Providence community came together Thursday evening, ranging from young to old, in downtown NP to celebrate a belated 4th of July with fireworks to cap off a family friendly night.
South Street was closed off so that families could lounge and enjoy the amenities that were provided on the scene, ranging from Italian ice, chalking on the streets, and music performed by DJ Souren of Club Souren.
The festivities began at 7 p.m. two days after the planned day due to inclement weather, but it was worth the wait as the entire community was able to gather from South Street to the community pool parking lot to enjoy the firework show once the sun set to cap off a fun night for the locals.
In addition to the fireworks and music, businesses lined up the streets with giveaways for the kids, and chalk was provided for the kids to create art in the street.
The fireworks were made possible by the donation from event sponsor, Investors Bank. The event is also sponsored by Accent Printing, Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, Colonial Appliance, Hair Salon Body & Soul, Kapuscinski Luongo Architects, Martial Arts for Life, NJ Sharing Network, NP Downtown Improvement District, Souren Communications (sponsoring Club Souren DJ), Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, and New Providence Business, which sponsors the Summer Concerts, Street Fair, Downtown Trick or Treating and Scarecrow Stroll, the Holiday Festival, and other community events.
