NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – From start to finish, the undefeated New Providence Pioneer cross-country teams had unprecedented seasons. For the first time in New Providence High School history, the boys cross-country team made it to the Meet of Champions.
“The season overall was fantastic. Both teams had a lot of success and a lot of fun. I am optimistic that my team will be able to match the success they had this season to next season,” head coach Corey Arnold said.
One of the main reasons why the team had a great year was due to the tremendous work of sophomore Jordan Price.
“Like my coach said, I thought our season was fantastic. We won sections and qualified for the Meet of Champions by coming in at third in our group. Our team is starting to establish history, and our team is looking forward to doing what we accomplished this year again and again,” said Price.
During the season, Jordan had the fastest times in school history at Van Cortlandt Park in New York City and in Holmdel. Aside from doing well at those meets, Jordan also broke the school record for a 5K run at 15:58.
“Since our team was really supportive, it was a great season,” sophomore Megan Friscia said. “We had a lot of fun, did a lot of work in practice and it paid off.”
With each team only losing a few starters, the Pioneer cross-country team looks to utilize what they did this season and bring it into next fall.
