On Thursday, April 27th, the New Providence Democrats held their second monthly meeting which included formal introductions from their Borough Council candidates, Jamie Baer-Peterson and Keith Doll. Both candidates gave impassioned speeches about why they are running for Borough Council and what they hope to achieve in that role, if elected.
The meeting also included brief introductions by Jill LaZare and David Barnett who are running for State Senate and State Assembly, respectively. Peter Corvelli, who is running for Union County Sheriff, also spoke to the crowd of more than forty attendees.
This newly active club has been getting a great response from New Providence residents. Stacey Gunderman, a New Providence resident for nine years and the newly elected Vice-Chair of the club, shares her experiences saying “a few months ago, I joined a few other amazing New Providence residents, mainly women, to rejuvenate the New Providence Democratic Club as we felt strongly we should have an active voice in our town which we all care for deeply. I am continually amazed at the overwhelming energy, enthusiasm, and support from those who are joining our club. We welcome all who share our values and ideals and look forward to seeing more new faces at our next meeting.”
NP Democrats are already planning future events including meet and greets with the candidates and participating in community outreach. If you are interested in becoming more involved with the club, their next general meeting will be on Thursday, May 25th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Borough Hall. On-site childcare will be provided for those attending the meeting.
