NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The students at both elementary schools in New Providence received an exciting school-wide outdoor assembly -- thanks to the New Providence Police Department when they recently arranged for the New Jersey State Police and The New Jersey Army National Guard 1/150th Aviation Unit to fly into Allen W. Roberts and Salt Brook Schools to help kick off their 2016 Character Education campaign.
The helicopters delivered banners displaying this year's motto "HERO" which stands for Helping Everyone Respect Others. The aircrews displayed their aircraft and spoke to the students about what it takes to be a hero. The children were excited to see the helicopters and meet the State Policemen and State Troopers.
Trooper Jeff Dipple, a Pilot with the New Jersey State Police NorthStar Helicopter, spoke to the children and quoted Maya Angelou, “I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people."
Along with Trooper Dipple, were the State Police Crew of Trooper Paul Brocky (Pilot),Trooper Mike Carrig (Medic) and Marie O'Donnell (Medic). The National Guard Crew who were on hand were CW2 Paul Summerfield,CW2 Jamie Drennen and SGT Louis Duran. Also attending the assembly were members of the New Providence Police Department and Fire Department.
